Job Description:
Role Overview
The Health & Safety Officer will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day management of health and safety across MUIDS. This includes the school campus, student residence, school activities and events.
The role will focus on identifying and managing risks, carrying out regular safety inspections, maintaining appropriate records, supporting emergency preparedness and ensuring that health and safety procedures are understood and followed by staff and students.
The Health & Safety Officer will work closely with the Deputy Director for Safeguarding and Residence, School Leadership, Facilities, Security, the School Nurse, Residence Team and other departments to maintain a safe environment for the entire MUIDS community.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Health and Safety
- Maintain and support the implementation of the school๓๙;s Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Monitor compliance with Mahidol University Safety Standards
- Carry out regular health and safety inspections across the campus and residence.
- Identify hazards and work with relevant departments to ensure that appropriate action is taken.
- Maintain records of inspections, identified hazards and corrective actions.
- Support health and safety audits and external inspections, including accreditation visits.
Risk Assessment
- Coordinate and maintain risk assessments across the school.
- Support staff and departments in completing risk assessments for activities, events, trips and specialist areas.
- Review risk assessments for higher-risk activities and make recommendations where necessary.
- Monitor identified risks and follow up on outstanding actions.
Accidents and Incidents
- Maintain an effective system for reporting and recording accidents, injuries and near misses.
- Support the investigation of significant health and safety incidents.
- Identify trends and recurring issues and recommend preventative measures.
- Work with the School Nurse, Safeguarding Team, Security and Residence Team when incidents require a coordinated response.
Emergency Preparedness
- Coordinate regular emergency drills and exercises across the school and residence.
- Support the development and review of emergency procedures, including fire evacuation, lockdown and other emergency situations.
- Maintain records and evaluations of emergency drills.
- Make recommendations following drills or emergency incidents.
- Support the training and coordination of fire wardens, first aiders and other staff with emergency responsibilities.
Training and Awareness
- Support health and safety induction for new staff.
- Identify staff training needs and coordinate appropriate training.
- Provide health and safety briefings and guidance where required.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture across the MUIDS community.
Residence
- Carry out regular health and safety checks within the MUIDS Residence.
- Work with the Residence Team to identify and manage risks affecting residential students.
- Support the development and review of residence emergency procedures.
- Ensure that appropriate safety information and procedures are communicated to residential students and staff.
Events, Activities and Contractors
- Support departments with health and safety planning for school events and activities.
- Review safety arrangements for higher-risk activities where appropriate.
- Monitor health and safety arrangements for contractors working on school premises.
- Work with Facilities and Security to manage risks associated with maintenance, construction and external contractors.
Reporting
- Maintain accurate health and safety records and documentation.
- Provide regular updates to the Deputy Director for Safeguarding and Residence and relevant members of School Leadership.
Identify areas for improvement and support the development of annual health and safety priorities.
